Winter Decorating - Entryway Table

The time when everyone does their holiday decorating has come and gone, but that doesn't mean the cozy feeling has to leave as well. My winter decorations are up from Dec. - March! Today I want to show you one of my favorite spots to look at in the house during winter. Other than my fireplace and mantle.
(That post coming soon).

My Entryway Table

I don't really have an entryway in my living room since you kind of come in sideways through the laundry room, but I still like to call this my entryway table for some reason. It sounds better than "that table that sits on that wall in my living room..."

When I sit on the couch to work, or to feed Lucy, or to listen to stories, this table is what is directly in front of me. So it has to look good or I'd feel very discontented while doing these things. And we just can't have that.

I have been anxiously waiting for the snowflake pictures to complete this area and I'm sad to say, I'm a tad bit disappointed with them. In the stock photo they look like they are wood colored behind the snowflake, but as you can clearly tell they are not. Maybe I was just hoping that's what it was and it doesn't really look like that to anyone else. I don't know. I might have to do something creative with that before next Winter.
They are still cute though and really complete the wall.
(They light up too!)

Can we just take a minute and address how cool the stereo is? It was one of my birthday presents last month and I have seriously used it everyday since.

  • CD Player
  • Cassette Player
  • Record Player
  • Auxilary Input
  • Bluetooth Capable
  • AM/FM Radio
  • Record straight to USB
I bought it because I wanted a CD Player with a remote, but I figured why not go all out and be able to play any kind of audio I want? I selected the white color but as you can see it is cream. I might end up painting it later this year, but I'm unsure because I'm a little scared that I might mess it up. Something to think on...

Oh I almost forgot the table! This table was what started our little Fireside Creek business. We built it one day out of some reclaimed wood we had laying around. It cost us $12 total for the 4x4s and the screws to put it together.

Some friends and family noticed it and started encouraging us to build things to sell. Our building techniques, designs, and tool collection has come a long way since putting this table together and we're still learning new things daily.

For that reason, I won't ever get rid of this table, even though it's not as sturdy or put together as well as our designs are now. It's our firstborn I guess you could say. Well maybe not... That seems a little weird. 😊

I hope this post encourages you to carry your winter decorating beyond December if you don't already. We should really try to hang on to those cozy moments because before long the weather is going to warm and the days will be long and we won't have time to sit, snuggle and snooze by the light of the fire.

Hot Chocolate Center (and recipe)

"Oh the weather outside is frightful... but the fire is so delightful. And since there's no place to go... "
Actually there are a million other places to go and things to do but...

We just had our first snow of the season a few days ago, and if you can't tell, I'm a huge snow lover! There is something about freezing temperatures, beautiful white snow covering everything in sight, and a cozy fireplace that just makes me all giddy inside.

My family and I love curling up with big soft blankets, a cup of hot chocolate, and sitting down to listen to an audio story. We have a bunch of different ones to listen to, but our favorite that we keep going back to is Adventures in Odyssey. It's a Christian audio series that has been in existence since 1987 (I think) and still going strong today. The stories are so funny and entertaining. If you're interested, you can read more about the audio adventures here.

ANYWAYS... #squirrel

Today I thought I would share our Hot Chocolate center we bring out every winter and as a bonus our favorite go to Hot Chocolate recipe.

Over the years, we have changed this center's design and location but here is how we have it this year.

I don't use our Keurig for hot chocolate anymore but my husband enjoys a cup of coffee every once in a while and it's good to have when company comes over.

I took a simple wood box with rope handles and filled mason jars with the necessities for a good cup of hot chocolate.
  • Baking Cocoa
  • White Chocolate Chips
  • Mini Chocolate Chips
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Peppermint Candy Canes

*Don't tell anyone, but the back three jars are sitting on upside down teacups to give them more height and create dimension. Shh.. It's our little secret.*

I keep switching out the winter décor in the middle, but that's just me... I'm constantly changing things.

I got the really cute deer mug at Walmart a few months ago but sadly I can't find it online anywhere to link to it for anyone that might have been interested so I'm sorry about that but this one and this one are cute too.

The buffalo check dish towel and the snow covered tree was a purchase I made from a local small business, and the chalkboard sign was something I had bought years ago but just made useful again.

Now onto the goodies!

Below is the recipe that has had the most success on our taste buds.  😉

Kick your shoes off and stay awhile. Just kidding. If they are smelly, keep those things on. Although I'd love to have some "afternoon tea in the parlor" (read in a British accent) with each and every one of you, sadly that is nigh to impossible since I neither like tea nor have a parlor...

Are you still reading in a British accent? Because I'm still typing like I'm from the mother country... What is happening?.. This post is quickly getting away from me and I fear I might start calling everyone "darling" so I'm going to try to bring this back around.

My name is Krista. I have been married to my "darling" husband (oh no...) Corey for almost 12 years now and I have been trying to decorate our house ever since. I have been through my share of themes, colors, and straight up disasters. Think palm tree overload.... But I've finally found my style I guess you could say and instead of making drastic and sometimes horrible changes to our house, I can now make tweaks here and there that just furthers my love for our home and allows me to enjoy the family we have started together even more.

It is definitely not a fancy house and still a work in progress but I'm hoping you get inspired by some of my posts to make your own home comfy, cozy, and cute.
